Ginger is a popular spice crop that is cultivated all throughout India except North and Northwestern India. The varieties of Ginger cultivated differ according to the region. Ginger is integral part of Indian cuisine. It is used fresh as well in form of dried form in masalas.

Ginger has  a annual cropping cycle, planting is done during April to June and harvesting from January onwards. In eastern India ginger is a rain fed crop where as in rest of India Ginger is necessarily a irrigated crop.

In western India Satara and Sangli are main ginger growing districts. The Ginger grown in these regions is very pungent (high in volatile oil) and is in high demand all over the world. The ginger grown in these region commands significant premium in local as well as in international market.

Ginger is seldom affected by many insects or pests. How ever Ginger is particularly affected by Soft Rot and Bacterial rot. Both of these diseases are devastating in nature and cause significant losses to farmers. To date there have not been any sure shot controls for these diseases. Farmers use conventional fungicides and bactericides to control these diseases with moderate success. How everinspite of observing basic sanitation and providing best growing conditions (remain primary mode of control of these devastating diseases on Ginger) the crop is often affected by these diseases. Hi Cell Crop sciences is making an effort to provide solutions to this pressing problem faced by Ginger farmers.

At “ Hicell” research center our scientists have developed effective herbal formulations those can go a long way in helping Ginger farmers to control Soft Rot of Ginger.

GINGER SHAKTI: This is a formulation that has been specially developed for successful Ginger cultivation.  Application of “Ginger Shakti “@ 2-4 ml/liter of water increases the nutrient uptake of ginger plant resulting in increase in number & vigor of ginger shoots shoot. Very often application of Hi Cell Ginger Shakti will ensure emergence of strong shoot with above average diameter those will result in taller shoots. Only after couple of applications of Hi Cell Ginger Shakti the farmer will notice significant improvement in Hi Cell Shakti treated ginger plants.

HI CELL GINGER COMBO: This a time-tested combination of two Hi cell products namely Hi cell Master and Hi cell Victor (in the ratio of 2:1). This formulation has been particularly successful in controlling bacterial and fungal infection on pomegranates and grapes. Our trails have shown that when applied 4-8 Ml / liter of water in drench on ginger plants infected by soft rot or bacterial rot, Ginger plants show significant curtailment of spread of infection. After 2-3 applications of” Hi cell Ginger plus combo” on infected ginger Rhizomes new shoots would start emerging. Hi Cell Ginger Plus Combo can be used as a preventive when applied on ginger crop @ 2-4 ml/ liter of water every 10 days interval. Hi cell Ginger plus Combo will also positively influence nutrient uptake and thereby growth of the Ginger plants that can translate into higher yields and revenue for the Ginger farmer.

SPRAY SCHEDULE GINGER

Plantation : Soak the Ginger seedling corms in   “Hi cell Ginger Plus combo “solution prepared with 10 Ml / Liter of water for one day. Add additional solution if the ginger corms absorb water. The remnant water can be used in drip irrigation for irrigation. This treatment will  remove all the remnant infections  from the  Ginger seed corms and will significantly improve the germination of  Ginger seed corms.

June – July : Apply “Hi  Cell Ginger shakti “ @ 2-4 ml/liter of water every 10 days. This will ensure emergence of greater  number of healthy and thick shoots .Application of “Hi Cell Ginger Shakti “ “will boost the tolerance of ginger  crop to Ginger soft rot and Ginger bacterial rot.

August – SeptemberOctober: This is  time when Ginger crops is most susceptible to Soft rot and bacterial rot due to conducive  climatic conditions. The farmer should closely inspect his field for any sign of yellowing or curling of lower leaves. In such cases the farmer should immediately apply the crop with “Hi cell Ginger shakti “ or “Hi cell Ginger plus combo “ @ 4-8 Ml/ liter of water in drench/spray .Repeat the  drench /sprays every 7 days till the symptoms of disease subside and new shoots start to emerge. Once the disease is brought under control the farmer should continue to apply Hi cell Ginger Shakti @ 2-6 ml/ liter of water every 7-10 days.

November – December – January : This is the most crucial period of Ginger growth. This is the period when Ginger Rhizomes  are formed and increase in weight. It is very important to keep the Ginger shoots healthy and strong for longer period of time since this will ensure that highest possible yield and better returns. Application of “Hicell Ginger Shakti” @ 2-4 ml/liter of water will ensure optimum growth of ginger Rhizomes and sustained shoot vigor for longer period of time.

In case the farmer observes infestation of soft rot or bacterial rot in ginger filed the farmer should immediately repeat application of “Hi cell Ginger shakti “ or “Hi cell Ginger plus combo “ @ 4-8 Ml/ liter of water as a drench. Repeat the sprays every 7 days till the symptoms of disease subside and new shoots start to emerge or the existing shoots start turning green again.

IMPORTANT NOTE : The farmer should ensure that the ginger crop gets adequate nutrients from the soil. The farmer should keep in mind that the Ginger thrives best in soils having high organic carbon. Hence it is very important that farmers use adequate amount of organic or in organic fertilizers to ensure best results from our products. The performance of our products will depend on adequate availability of nutrients to Ginger crop.
